Toyota Venza Gets Two New Trims for 2012

Toyota Venza Gets Two New Trims for 2012

2012 Toyota Venza
Toyota announced last week that it would add two new trims to the Toyota Venza lineup for 2012. Until now, the Toyota Venza was only available in one trim, which is unusual. Shoppers in the market for a 2012 Venza can now opt for one of three trim levels.
“Toyota thinks the move brings the Venza in line with its other products and makes choosing more convenient for buyers,” writes Autoblog.
The Toyota Venza’s new base trim, the Venza LE, will come standard with features like dual-zone automatic climate control, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel and three 12-volt power outlets. The middle-of-the-road Toyota Venza XLE adds features like leather-trimmed seats, a smart key with push-button ignition and wood-grain interior trim. The top-of-the-line Toyota Venza Limited adds a touch-screen navigation system and a leather-trimmed steering wheel with integrated audio and Bluetooth controls.
Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but the 2011 Toyota Venza starts at $27,125. The base 2012 Toyota Venza LE is equipped similarly to last year’s Venza, so shoppers can expect a similar starting price. The 2012 Toyota Venza will hit dealerships this fall, according to Automobile Magazine.

Ford Minivans Investigated for Safety Issues

Ford Minivans Investigated for Safety Issues

2004 Ford Freestar
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced last week that it is investigating the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans for three deaths involving their service jacks. The particular jacks being investigated come with the car so that the owner can change a tire if necessary. The agency is probing 205,661 minivans from model years 2004 and 2005 as a result of one death and three injuries that may have been caused when the vans’ jacks failed.
Reportedly, the death and injuries occurred when the jacks’ hinges failed, causing the minivan to drop onto a person working underneath. “NHTSA said the jack should only be used to change a tire,” cautions Automotive News, since changing a tire does not require a person to get under the van while it’s jacked up.
At this point, the Ford and Mercury vans are still under investigation, so NHTSA won’t know whether to recall them until the probe has been concluded. Until then, if you’re concerned your minivan may be affected, be sure not to use the van’s jack for serious under-car work. Instead, use your own hydraulic jack, or take it to a repair shop.
To find out more about NHTSA’s investigation, or to see if your minivan is included in the investigation, keep an eye on the agency’s website. In most cases, automakers will notify car owners if their vehicle has been recalled.

Toyota Announces Pricing for 2012 Prius Lineup

Toyota announced prices for its 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in and Prius vhybrids last week. The base Prius Plug-in hybrid will start at $32,000, while the Plug-in Advanced starts at $39,525. The Toyota Prius v Two wagon starts at $26,400, the Toyota Prius v Three has a price tag of $27,165 and the top-of-the-line Toyota Prius v Five starts at $29,990. All prices exclude a $760 delivery, processing and handling fee.
The 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in will receive a $2,500 federal tax credit, TheDetroit News reports. After the tax credit, the Prius Plug-in’s base price will be $29,500. The Prius Plug-in’s main competitor, the Chevrolet Volt, receives a $7,500 federal tax credit for the 2011 model, which brings its $40,280 starting price down to $32,780. That’s still $3,280 more than the Prius Plug-in costs.
Consumer Reports estimates that both new Toyota Prius models will hit dealerships in select states in spring 2012, though Toyota will begin taking orders for the hybrid in October. At first, only Toyota dealers in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Washington will offer the Prius Plug-in. It will be available nationwide in 2013.

2012 GMC Terrain Gets Collision Alert System

2012 GMC Terrain Gets Collision Alert System

2012 GMC Terrain
Many car companies are beginning to offer optional radar-based collision warning systems, which are handy features, but can be expensive. General Motors, however, announced that it will offer a less-expensive, camera-based warning system in the 2012 GMC Terrain.
For $295, shoppers can add a forward collision alert and lane departure warning system to their GMC Terrain SLT-2 with a V6 engine, which starts at $33,740. A similar system costs $2,950 on the Mercedes-Benz M-Class as part of the driver assistance package.
GMC is able to offer its system for so much less than Mercedes’ in part because it’s camera-based, not radar-based. “The new $295 option buys customers a system that reduces the complexity of the setups carried by zooty luxury brands by using a single camera instead of the hybrid camera-laser-radar systems you'll find elsewhere,” writes Autoblog.
However, GMC hasn’t said whether its accident avoidance system will include other components that add to the price of those offered on otherluxury crossovers like the Mercedes-Benz M-Class and BMW X3. “GM doesn’t mention if the system will pre-emptively tighten seat belts, adjust seating position, raise head restraints or close the windows as similar systems do,” Kicking Tires reports.
The 2012 GMC Terrain is already on sale, so shoppers who want to jump at the chance to get this inexpensive safety option can head to the dealership right away.
